WASHINGTON — The new 2014 Jeep Cherokee SUV has earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The Cherokee received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test.
Five stars is the highest rating.
The rating applies to two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions of the Cherokee.
The 2014 Jeep Cherokee was named a 2013 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Top Safety Pick testing simulates a side impact with a large SUV or pickup truck, front moderate overlap impact, roof-crush consistent with a rollover, and a rear collision capable of inducing whiplash. In each of these, the all-new Jeep Cherokee recorded the highest-possible rating of “good.”
Safety features on the Cherokee include 10 standards airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag.
The Cherokee replaced the Jeep Liberty in the Jeep lineup. Cherokee competitors include the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Mitsubishi Outlander, among others.
